Bulldog Brew 5/29: Two-Timer

Today: We've got track & field records to break.

Good morning! Our very own Bulldog set the tennis world on notice this weekend in the French Open. Nuno Borges defeated John Isner in a four hour match in the first round of the tournament for his first career main draw win. What a way to start off a major!

🔼 Hard Fought. The 18th ranked Bulldogs closed out their 2022-2023 season in Scottsdale, AZ after finishing in a tie for 25th. Hunter Logan was the low golfer of the day with a tie for 55th after three rounds. Garrett Endicott finished in a tie for 81st in his NCAA debut, and Austin Vukovits completed his third round with a bogey-free back nine.

“They showed heart, grit, and toughness all season long, and for them to accomplish what they did is very rewarding,” said head coach Dusty Smith.

The NCAA Westfield Regional champs will look to head into next season off the heels of their record-breaking season.

🔼 Keep Them Coming. After a season full of success, Julia Lopez Ramirez earned yet another award after being named to the WGCA All-American First Team. With only 50 total student-athletes being named to the list, earning this award is quite the recognition for our women’s golfer.

Last season, Lopez Ramirez was named as a WGCA Honorable Mention, and in just one year, turned that into a First Team selection. The standout sophomore accumulated three individual wins this season and was named the SEC Player of the Year and First Team All-SEC en route to being recognized as a first team-er.

🔼 More Success. As the Bulldogs were battling it out on the course in Scottsdale, AZ, MSU men’s golf stud Garrett Endicott received PING All-Southeast Region honors by the Golf Coaches Association of America. The freshman, who was selected to both the SEC All-Freshman and All-SEC Second Team, has impressed this season with four top-10 finishes and a team-low stroke average of 71.03.

🔼 Two-Timer. Records are for breaking, and that’s exactly what Kamaya Debose-Ebbs did on her way to qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Championships. After making it to Saturday’s heat in the 100-meter race, she took off and set an MSU record with a time of 11.10. The mark was good enough for ninth-best-overall as she punched her first ticket to the championships.

Less than two hours later, Debose-Epps was racing in the 200-meter, and came up just .07 seconds shy of setting another school record. With a time of 22.88, and a fourth place finish in her heat, she punched her second ticket of the day to compete for an NCAA title. She, as well as the other Bulldogs who qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships, will get their shot to bring home some hardware beginning June 7th.

🤔 BULLDOG TRIVIA

Speedy Quick. Kamaya Debose-Epps put on a racing clinic this past weekend as she punched two tickets to the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Breaking records in track is no easy feat, and to break them, every millisecond matters.

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: 11.38!

The record for the 100-meter race was broken by .28 seconds, and in track, that might as well be a whole minute. The previous record had been standing for 22 years before Debose-Epps performance on Saturday.

Have a great Monday, y'all.
