Bulldog Brew 4/27: Top Seed

Today, we're hoping to hear Dawgs have their names called and celebrating a No. 1 seed for the first time.

Good morning! It's always nice to hear that someone else loves something that you love. With all of the NFL Draft talk finally ending with tonight's opening round, Charles Davis says you can take any of the corner prospects you like, he loves Emmanuel Forbes.

All Smiles. It's just about impossible to go overboard when honoring a figure so important to an entire sport and community like Ron Polk. But you can't blame State for trying!

In the latest installment of The Follow, we take you behind the scenes and right into the action from Super Bulldog Weekend and the unveiling of Coach Polk's statue. From former players to co-workers over the decades, there's no better testament to the impact of a man than the sheer number of people who turned out to be a part of the ceremony.

We've never seen him smile so much.

🔼 Simply The Best. Mississippi State women's golf received the good news they were hoping for on Wednesday. With the announcement of the field for this year's NCAA Tournament, the Dawgs were selected as one of the 6 No. 1 seeds for this year's tournament. It's the first time in program history they've earned a No. 1 seed.

Joining Mississippi State in the Westfield Regional will be Oregon, Vanderbilt, Iowa State, Virginia, Tulsa, Tennessee, Michigan, Oregon State, Xavier, Lipscomb, and Morehead State.

They're slated to be the No. 1 seed at The Club at Chatham Hills in Westfield, IN. They're one of 4 SEC clubs to be named No. 1 seeds along with LSU, South Carolina, and Texas A&M. We like hearing the analysts who say these 6 No. 1 seeds were consistently the best 6 teams in the country all year.

🔼 Forbes Listed. Everyone has firm opinions about Emmanuel Forbes ahead of the NFL Draft's opening round tonight. While some have concerns about his size others can't resist a cornerback who seems to have psychic abilities to know when and where the ball is going.

Nobody knows more about Forbes as a player and a person than State cornerbacks coach Darcel McBath. McBath joined Joel Coleman and Logan Lowery from the road on the latest edition of the Dear Ol' State podcast to discuss Forbes and what makes him such a special player.

The Dear Ol' State podcast is part of the HailState+ Podcast Network and can also be found on Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

🔼 Eight Up. Mississippi State's basketball programs had eight student-athletes secure spots on the 2022-23 SEC Winter Academic Honor Roll.

The men's team was represented by Justin Rumph, Tolu Smith, and Isaac Stansbury who landed on the honor roll for the third consecutive year. Tyler Brumfield is a first-time recipient.

Charlotte Kohl also made her third straight appearance, while Denae Carter, Anastasia Hayes, and Mia Moore are all first-time honorees on the women's side.

🔼 Wheat Tooth. If you watched the Super Bowl this year, that was a 7th-round rookie running back that started for the Chiefs. NFL teams know the early selections get all of the headlines but it's the gems they find in the later rounds that are the difference between good and great teams.

According to David Cobb of CBS Sports, State edge rusher Tyrus Wheat is one of those later round prospects that could wind up being a steal. In particular, Cobb likes that the former junior college prospect has exceeded expectations at every level of football. The NFL will be no different.

🤔 BULLDOG TRIVIA

Off and running. Emmanuel Forbes hopes to hear his name called in tonight's opening round of the NFL Draft. By the time he finished at State, Forbes was feared as one of the nation's most dangerous ball-hawking defensive backs in the country.

Our question today... Back in 2020, Forbes set an Armed Services Bowl record with his 3rd quarter pick-six against Tulsa. How long was his interception return for a touchdown?

Think you know the answer? Scroll on down to the bottom to find out.

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: 90 yards!

In the third quarter, Forbes picked off a Tulsa pass and returned it 90 yards for a touchdown to set an Armed Services Bowl record. State would hold on and win 28-26.

Have a great Thursday, y'all.
