Bulldog Brew 10/9: Statement Game
Today, we're looking forward to a much-needed bye week after a big win over Western Michigan.
Good morning! Need a little boost to start your workweek? Nothing cures what ails you quite like State football singing on the field after a victory. Your moment of zen.
What else did we throw into today’s Brew?
🏈 Statement game vs. Western Michigan
⚽️ Another Magnolia Cup comin’ our way
🐶 And much, much more!
🎙️ DEAR OL’ STATE
Turned the corner. He’s played in a Super Bowl himself and coached others to the NFL level. Very few know the cornerback position like State cornerbacks coach Darcel McBath. On the latest episode of Dear Ol’ State, McBath joins Joel Coleman and Logan Lowery to look at his position group, what makes for a good corner and more.
📈 STOCK UP
🔼 Statement Game. Mississippi State started the month of October on the right foot with a 41-28 win over Western Michigan this past weekend, with Will Rogers throwing for a trio of touchdowns—including Jordan Mosley’s first career touchdown!—and the run game finishing with 200 yards on the ground. Nathaniel Watson leading the defense with two sacks on the day.
📆 Up next for State? It’s a get-right bye week followed up with a business trip to Fayetteville to face Arkansas. We’ll announce kickoff time as soon as we have it.
🔼 Four Scored. Mississippi State faced off against in-state foe Ole Miss for the annual battle for the Magnolia Cup yesterday—and StarkVegas was rocking on throughout the night as the second-largest crowd in MSU Soccer Field history witnessed the Dawgs capture their fourth-straight Magnolia Cup victory with a 1-0 win last night.
The early going was a back-and-forth attacking affair as both squads looked to gain the upper hand and momentum early before Ilana Izquierdo was tasked with stepping up for a penalty kick and rocketing the shot past a diving Ole Miss goalkeeper and into the back of the net. State successfully took the 1-0 advantage for the rest of the match.
🔼 Survive And Advance. Both Mississippi State tennis teams put together impressive ITA All-American Championships runs over the weekend—with the men’s team making it all the way to the quarterfinals before bowing out and the women’s team still alive in the semifinals.
Alexandra Mikhailuk and Athina Pitta won a pair of doubles matches, first over Ole Miss and then Tulane, that put them into the semifinals of the event hosted by LSU. The duo will take on Florentine Dekkers and Aran Teixido Garcia of LSU this afternoon.
🔼 Forever 21. Mississippi State softball outscored its opponents by a 21-0 margin in a pair of fall games on Friday night, winning 15-0 over Chipola College before downing Copiah-Lincoln CC by a score of 6-0. Even more 21 madness? State combined for 21 hits in the two games.
🤔 BULLDOG TRIVIA
Two more first-timers. We mentioned that Jordan Mosley scored his first career touchdown against Western Michigan, but he wasn’t the only one! Two other Bulldogs got into the end zone for the first time in their State career—one a running back and one a wide receiver.
Can you name them?
