Show Me The Money. As the Bulldogs are hard at work preparing for next season, and “Dolla Bill” Johnson plans on being a part of their future success.

In this edition of All Access, we pulled Johnson away for a bit to learn about what shaped him into the player he is today, how he got such an awesome nickname, and the focus for this offensive line group going forward. After listening to this interview, you never know, you might learn a thing, or two about the big men down in the trenches.

Spring football is a time to learn about next year’s team, and tons of episodes like this are now available to our HailState+ members. Not to mention plenty more from all of the State athletics programs.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 From Saturdays To Sundays. Yet another Bulldog was picked up to play on Sundays this weekend. MSU’s Cameron Young was drafted in the fourth round of the NFL Draft as pick number 123 overall to the Seattle Seahawks.

The defensive tackle made 25 starts in his career, accumulating 107 total tackles, two sacks, and an interception. He will join former teammate, and last year’s ninth overall pick, Charles Cross, in Seattle.

Joining Young in the NFL from Starkville is linebacker Tyrus Wheat, defensive lineman Randy Charlton, and safety Collin Duncan who were signed off of waivers following the draft. Wheat is headed to America’s Team with the Dallas Cowboys, Charlton is headed down to South Beach to join the Miami Dolphins, while Duncan heads to the hills of Hollywood to join the Los Angeles Rams.

🔼 Sweep Dreams. Yesterday was a blast on the diamond as the Bulldogs completed the sweep against the Kentucky Wildcats, beating them in the home series finale 7-4, with all runs coming on four home runs.

Paige Cook got things started off right, and tied things up in the bottom of the first with a solo shot. Chloe Malau’ulu followed that up with a two-run shot of her own to secure the lead for the Bulldogs the rest of the way. The final two moonshots came from Matalasi Faapito and a second one from Cook, who now sits at ninth in MSU history with 22 career home runs.

The starter, Reis Beuerlein earned her fifth win of the season after a solid outing, going three innings and striking out four batters. The win brought the Bulldogs up to 27 on the year with postseason play in the not-so-distant future. MSU will head to Auburn next weekend to close out the regular season and end the season strong.

🔼 Out With A Bang. In the last meet of the regular season, the Bulldogs, who hosted the Maroon and White Invite, saw plenty of success including eight first place finishes, and twenty-five top-5 finishes. Safe to say MSU ended on a high note.

Emma Hunt had herself a day by breaking the school record in the pole vault after clearing 13’ 6.5” (4.13 meters for you metric system people out there). The senior, who had been honored during the senior ceremony, surpassed teammate Maddy Kish by just two inches to hold the top ranking in the record books.

Tariq Horsford also had an impressive day after finishing first, collegiately, in the javelin throw with a mark of 237’10”. It was a season best for the senior, and was good enough for the 12th-best-throw in the NCAA this season. He would go on to finish third in the event.

To wrap things up, the Bulldogs swept the 100 meter in both the men’s and women’s events, with Cameron Crump turning in a career-best 10.19 first place finish, and Kamaya Debose-Epps taking first in the women’s heat running a season best 11.45. Both athletes aren’t done yet, and will return to MSU for next season.

With the regular season over and done with, the Bulldogs will now shift focus to the SEC Outdoor Championship later this month in Baton Rouge.
