📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Postseason Action. It’s postseason time for SEC softball, and the Bulldogs are headed to Fayetteville to play under the bright lights.

MSU will open up the SEC Tournament against Missouri tonight at 6:30pm. The Bulldogs did not face off against the Tigers this season, but in their most recent matchup in 2022, MSU took the series win, winning two out of three games.

Head coach Samantha Ricketts has the Bulldogs playing well at the right time coming off of four wins in six contests. In her tenure, MSU has won at least one tournament game which bodes well for tonight’s game. Senior Madisyn Kennedy has stepped up to the plate (literally and figuratively) the past couple weeks posting a team high .389 batting average with four home runs and seven RBI’s. Chloe Malau’ulu is on a nine game reached-base streak with four walks and six extra base hits during that span.

Watch all the Bulldog softball action tonight on SEC Network, and tune in to see if the team can advance to the next round of the tournament.

🔼 Hot Start. Yesterday, the Bulldogs started their run to the NCAA National Championships with women’s golf teeing it up in Westfield, Indiana for the first round of Regional play. MSU got off to a fast start, and are currently eight-under par as a team, good enough for second place.

Individually, the Bulldogs are lighting the course up, with Julia Lopez Ramirez holding the lead on the field after shooting a five-under 67 to post a one shot lead. Fellow teammate, Hannah Levi, is right behind her in a tie for second after shooting four-under par in her round. Freshman, Izzy Pellot, posted a solid one-under round, including an eagle on the 13th (the only eagle of the day for MSU) and sits at a tie for 13th. These three golfers, along with Surapa Janthamunee’s two-over par round, are what gave the Bulldogs their eight-under first round score. They sit just one shot off of first place Tulsa.

With two rounds still to be played, anything can happen. The second round of action begins today at 7:00am CT. Keep up with all the action here to see how MSU fares in Day 2 of the tournament.

🔼 Newest Dawg. MSU women’s basketball got themselves another new addition to the team. Head coach, Sam Purcell, announced the signing of Darrione Rogers who will be joining the team this upcoming season.

Rogers joins State as the No. 19 transfer recruit in the country as a two-time All Big-East performer. The scoring guard from DePaul University averaged a solid 16.8 points per game last season which was good enough to finish as the school’s second all-time leading scorer. Complimenting her scoring, she finished with 5.1 assists per game and went an impressive 85% at the free throw line.

Coach Purcell is optimistic for the future of MSU’s offense next season with Rogers in the lineup. “I’m so excited to add a player of Darrione’s caliber to our team. Her elite ability will really open up the court for us and allow us to score from anywhere at any time.”

The Chicago native will look to come in and make an immediate impact for the Bulldogs next season. She joins a list of five others that have already committed to MSU for next season, and will certainly be one of the leaders among them. Basketball season can’t come soon enough.

🔼 Player To Watch. State’s very own Ilana Izquierdo recently announced her decision to play in the USL W League this summer in Asheville, NC before heading to Starkville later this fall.

Izquierdo is not new to pro-level competition as she has played for the Colombian National Team in both the U17 and U20 FIFA World Cups. As one of the W League’s players to watch, the decorated midfielder is on a mission to showcase her talent at the pre-professional level. Izquierdo will represent Asheville City SC this summer for the 2023 season.

🤔 BULLDOG TRIVIA

Going Low. Julia Lopez Ramirez has recently been scoring on golf courses like she’s playing putt-putt. She heads into Day 2 of the NCAA Regionals with the sole lead and will look to further extend that lead, as she has done before.

Our question today — do you know how many rounds in the sixties (thus far) Lopez Ramirez has posted this season?

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: 24!

Yesterday’s round of 67 marked the twenty-fourth time she has shot in the 60’s which ties the record for the most in program history. The SEC Player of the Year seemingly knows no bounds, and as a golfer, that’s exactly where you want to be.

Have a great Tuesday, y'all.
