🔼 Instant Classic. Sunday night’s game in Starkville will be one the Maroon and White faithful won’t soon forget.

The Bulldogs struggled to find the net for the first 86 minutes of the match, that is until Aitana Martinez-Montoya netted State’s first goal of the game off a penalty kick to tie things up. Then, in the 89th minute, Ally Perry delivered the season’s best moment thus far with a curling free kick that soared into the top corner to give the Bulldogs the victory

It was the unlikeliest of wins, but the team’s resilience and determination kept them in the game to the end, resulting in the team’s fourth win of the season.

🔼 Players’ Team. Bulldog football head coach Zach Arnett deserves credit for the team’s opening win this past Saturday, but he doesn’t see it that way.

🗣️ “I’d rather talk about my players. They’re the ones that went out there and did everything. Players prepare. Players go out and get ready to play. Players make plays.” - Coach Arnett

Coach made it abundantly clear that this Bulldog team’s success this weekend was all on the players. He’s for them, and his sole purpose is providing the right opportunities to have his players succeed in the system they operate in.

🔼 Split Series. The VolleyDawgs went into Orlando last weekend for the UCF Challenge and came away splitting the two games, going .500 on the weekend.

In the first match against UCF, the Bulldogs fought hard on their opponents home court, but fell short in four sets. After the Golden Knights took the first two, State fought back to secure a point in the third set. Lauren Myrick continued to be a bright spot with 20 digs on the match.

Saturday’s match against FIU was a different story. The Bulldogs came out firing to nab their fourth win of the season in a sweep of their opponents, 3 sets to nil. Lauren Myrick showed up big again, earning her first All-Tournament team of the season, and Karli Schmidt put up a career-high 19 kills.

🔼 Taking The Podium. Bulldog football got off to a hot start last Saturday with a win against Southeastern Louisiana. Now, Bulldog football heads into the Week 2 with some confidence from key players, and even an SEC weekly honor.

🏆️ Bulldog kicker Kyle Ferrie earns SEC Freshman Player of the Week after big debut.

🔼 Strong Start. Bulldog women’s golf teed up for the first time this season at the Carmel Cup at Pebble Beach and came away with a fifth place finish in a loaded field.

Last year’s SEC Player of the Year, Julia Lopez Ramirez, finished third after going seven under-par in the 54 hole tournament - her 17th career top-5 finish in collegiate play. First year golfer Avery Weed finished the tournament tied 16th with an even-par tournament under her belt. The Bulldogs will head deeper into the fall season next week. at the Annika Intercollegiate in Lake Elmo, Minnesota
