🔼 Week Won. The Zach Arnett era began with his first home win as State’s head coach this past Saturday. The Bulldogs started off the season with a bang as State scored six touchdowns in the season opener to capture the win over Southeastern Louisiana 48-7.
The first touchdown on the season came from none other than running back Jo’Quavious “Woody” Marks, one of two from him in the game. His second quarter score put State up 10. From there, the Bulldogs never looked back.
Will Rogers started his climb up the all-time SEC passing yards record with his performance, moving into seventh place and passing the former Gator, Danny Wuerffel.
The standout of the day on offense was freshman Creed Whittemore. In his first collegiate action of his career, he racked up two touchdowns, each over thirty yards, and in a variety of ways - one rushing and one receiving.
The icing on the cake came at the beginning of the fourth quarter when the special teams got in on the scoring action. John Lewis blocked a punt and Avery Sledge scooped it up for the touchdown.
Next up, the Bulldogs face Arizona in Davis Wade for a 6:30pm kickoff.
