Dear Ol’ State. A new week awaits the Bulldogs on the gridiron. In latest episode, Joel and Logan put the LSU game to rest and turn the page to focus on the next SEC challenger, South Carolina.

🎥 THIS IS MISSISSIPPI STATE

This Is Mississippi State. After starting the Zach Arnett era with a 48-7 victory against Southeastern Louisiana, the Mississippi State Bulldogs turned their attention to the Arizona Wildcats. This was the first true test for a State team looking to prove that they are willing to win by any means necessary.

🔼 State Great. Bulldog football legend Johnnie Cooks will posthumously receive the 2023 Dowsing-Bell award, an award that honors the most deserving male whose determination and perseverance in overcoming obstacles in all phases of life.

Cook stands among the best of the best to ever represent the Maroon and White. He was a three-time All-SEC linebacker, ranks fourth in school history in sacks (24), fifth in total tackles (392), and helped the Bulldogs to a No. 19 ranking in the nation during one of his four years on the field in the 1981 season.

🔼 There Goes That Man. Former Bulldog Marco Arop is lighting up the track this summer. Fresh off his World Championship performance, Arop set the men’s 800m Canadian record with a time of 1:42.85, a record that stood for the past five years and was previously held by another former Bulldog — Brandon McBride.

🔼 Defense Wins Awards. For the first time in her career, Zoe Gonzales earned SEC Defensive Player of the Week honors. She recorded 15 blocks across the two games at the Maroon and White Invite, including her career-high 10 block game against Lipscomb. Gonzales currently ranks fifth in the SEC standings for blocks this season.

🔼 Postseason Push. Regular season baseball is drawing to a close with only a few weeks left until the real fun begins, and a few of our former Diamond Dawgs are helping their teams make a push to the playoffs.

⚾️ Adam Frazier came up big for the Baltimore Orioles to tie the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the 9th inning which would eventually lead to a big win.

⚾️ Brandon Woodruff is helping the Milwaukee Brewers en route to a division winning season after a solid six inning, three hit, six strikeout performance.

🔼 Season Debut. State women’s tennis closed out their first tournament of the season at the Debbie Southern Fall Classic with 10 total wins across both singles and doubles competition. Maria Rizzolo came up as State’s big winner in the third round of the tournament with a hard fought 8-6 win for her third of the season.

Next up, the Bulldogs will head to Hilton Head, SC for some singles action in the ITF W15 Hilton Head.
