🔼 The Final Touches. Bulldog men's basketball has announced the final pieces of its nonconference schedule for the 2024-25 season. The Bulldogs will face West Georgia on November 4 for the season opener at Humphrey Coliseum and officially embark on the program's third season under Chris Jans, who has guided State to consecutive NCAA Tournament trips. The Maroon and White are looking to secure three straight NCAA Tournament bids for the third time in program history.
🔼 USA! USA! Bulldog softball assistant coach Zac Shaw is preparing to represent the United States as a member of Team USA at the WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup Group Stage in Oklahoma City starting today. Shaw is one of 12 returners on the roster from the Americans' bronze medal performance at the 2022 WBSC Men's World Cup, which snapped a 22-year medal drought. No. 7 Team USA will compete against No. 4 Japan, No. 13 Guatemala, No. 17 Colombia, No. 18 South Africa and No. 19 Netherlands in Oklahoma City. The teams will play a round-robin before a final playoff on Sept. 21.
🔼 Leader of the Pack. Bulldog football linebacker Isaac Smith has established himself as the leader of the State defense through three weeks of the season. No. 2 has hit the ground running for the Maroon and White, totaling 43 tackles in three contests which ranks first in the FBS. Coming out of high school, he was ranked as the fifth-best prospect in the state and the No. 25 safety in his class. Now, it’s easy to see why. He and the rest of the Bulldog football team will look to turn the page this weekend in the first SEC matchup of the season as they take on Florida.
🔼 Off On The Right Foot. Bulldog men’s tennis’ Benito Sanchez Martinez opened his fall season on a winning note on Monday at the ITF Fayetteville 15K. Sanchez Martinez represented both Mississippi State and his home country of Germany at the event where downed his opponent in convincing fashion, 6-2, 6-0. Today, he will face off against his next singles matchup as well as a doubles match with partner Petar Jovanovic. Niccolo Baroni and Mario Martinez Serrano will also make their debuts representing MSU.
