🎙️ DEAR OL’ STATE

Dear Ol’ State: Softball’s Zach Shaw Begins Chase For Gold. Mississippi State softball assistant coach Zac Shaw is about to begin his quest for a gold medal as he's a part of the Team USA roster for the upcoming WBSC Men's World Cup. On the latest Dear Ol' State, Shaw tells Joel Coleman and Logan Lowery all about the men's fastpitch scene, plus gives a little bit of early insight into State softball.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Battle Rockets. This Saturday at Davis Wade Stadium, Bulldog football will take on Toledo at 6:30 p.m. on ESPNU. Entering the matchup, State is 1-1 on the season and comes into the matchup against the Rockets following a near-comeback against Arizona State. Through two games, the Bulldogs are averaging nearly 40 points a game with seven different scorers on the offense. Defensively, Isaac Smith leads the team with 28 total tackles, and Elijah Cannon has the team’s sole takeaway with an interception in the season-opener.

🔼 Statement Win. Bulldog soccer made a statement on Thursday night, defeating Abilene Christian 5-0 on MSU Soccer Field. Rylie Combs got the scoring started for State in the 23rd minute, then Ally Perry scored the next two to extend the lead to three. In the 53rd minute, Aitana Martinez-Montoya joined the party with a goal of her own, and McKinnan Braswell closed the match in the 81st minute. The victory improves the Bulldogs to 6-1 on the season as the team prepares for conference play next week against one of the SEC’s newest members, Oklahoma.

🔼 Making A Wave. State volleyball is back on the road this weekend as the team travels to New Orleans for the Green Wave Classic, hosted by Tulane. The Bulldogs will face off against three opponents this weekend, including the tournament hosts, ULM and Grambling State. The Maroon and White will take on Tulane on Friday for just the third time this century. On Saturday, the team will take on ULM where the Bulldogs own an 11-5 record against the War Hawks, sweeping their last matchup in 2021. Rounding out the weekend, State will take on Grambling State, a team that the Bulldogs have swept in all four meetings.

🔼 Full Slate. Mississippi State's full 2025 baseball schedule is now set, and the Diamond Dawgs will play 31 games at Dudy Noble Field. The season kicks off on Friday, Feb. 14, at The Dude. The Bulldogs open the season with back-to-back home series, with Opening Day set for Friday, Feb. 14, against Manhattan to begin a three-game series. State’s 2025 SEC slate is highlighted by home series against Texas, South Carolina, Florida, Kentucky, and Ole Miss. In all, the Bulldogs will face six conference opponents that were 2024 NCAA Tournament participants, including two that reached the Super Regional round and two that advanced to the College World Series.
