🔼 Player of the Week. Will Whiston is your Co-SEC Defensive Player of the Week! The transfer defensive lineman posted a strong performance in his MSU debut with four tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss, four QB hurries, and a sack.

In addition to his conference honors, Whiston landed on the Pro Football Focus National Team of the Week, earning an 89.7 defensive grade.

🔼 Conference Superstars. On the heels of their weekend sweep of the Maroon & White Invite, two MSU volleyball players earned SEC Weekly honors. Cayley Hanson earned SEC Setter of the Week, and Lindsey Mangelson was named SEC Freshman of the Week. Hanson totaled 109 assists over the weekend with 16 digs, seven kills, and four service aces, while Mangelson totaled 40 kills during her collegiate debut weekend. She led all Bulldogs in kills and points scored.

The Bulldogs will hit the court again this weekend as part of the Blue Raider Bash, where they’ll face UT Martin, MTSU, and Marist in Tennessee.

🔼 A Strong Opener. MSU women’s golf’s Avery Weed finished the Carmel Cup tied for second this weekend, while the women’s team placed sixth overall in the event. Weed posted an impressive 3-under 69 during her final round, the third-best round of any golfer during the tournament. It marks the fourth top-five finish in Weed’s career.

🔼 Running To Victory. MSU cross country had a dominant opening weekend at the Twilight XC Classic! The Bulldogs finished the meet with the team win, while three runners earned top-10 finishes, including Naomi Jepleting’s second-place finish in the 5k. Jepleting set the new program record in the 5k with a time of 16:55.72. Nelly Jemeli finished third, while Brooklyn Quanz finished seventh in a new personal best of 17:46.46.

Up next is the Southern Showcase on September 12 in Huntsville, Alabama.
