🔼 On The Podium. Mississippi State's Anderson Peters won Olympic bronze in the javelin on Thursday, throwing 88.54m. His performance earned State's first-ever medal in a field event and its first Olympic medal since Jude Monye won gold in the 4x400m relay in 2000. Additionally, Peters is the first Grenadian athlete to win a medal in a throwing event. The island nation entered the Paris Games with three total medals, all in the men's 400m, but has now added bronze medals in both the decathlon and javelin.

Peters adds his Olympic bronze medal to an impressive resume that includes back-to-back NCAA titles (2018 & 2019) and a pair of world championship wins (2019 & 2022).

🔼 Rising Star. In his first year with the Bulldogs, quarterbacks coach Matt Holecek was named to the 247 Sports 30 Under 30. Holecek spent the last four seasons alongside Lebby as an assistant quarterbacks coach and joined the Bulldogs from Oklahoma, and before that, served in a similar role at Ole Miss. Alongside Lebby, Holecek has helped develop quarterbacks like Dillon Gabriel, Matt Corral and Drew Lock.

🔼 Finish Line. Former Bulldog track star Navasky Anderson was faster in his second career Olympic race, but again finished fifth in his heat and will not advance to today’s men's 800m semifinals. Mississippi State's former SEC Champion clocked in at 1:46.10, more than half a second quicker than his first-round time from his first race. Anderson was the first Jamaican to run the Olympic 800m since 2008.

🔼 Both Sides of the Ball. It's no secret that Mississippi State head coach Jeff Lebby loves offense. The more yardage and points the Bulldogs rack up this fall, the better. But Lebby doesn't mind seeing defensive success either – just as long as the defenders having success are wearing Maroon and White, too.

🗣️ “…the defense has done a lot of good things – creating turnovers, having unbelievable energy and toughness and physicality. That back-and-forth is what we want to see. When things don't go well, you want to see somebody respond." - Coach Lebby

Between now and the first kickoff of the 202 season, there'll surely be even more back-and-forth. Lebby just wants his guys to keep growing through all the highs and lows ahead of this weekend.

🔼 Today’s The Day. Bulldog soccer will return to the pitch for the first time this season for an exhibition match against ULM at 6:30 p.m. The Soccer Dawgs will play at the MSU Soccer Field tomorrow and admission to the match will be free for all fans.
