Dawg Days. While we await the newest episode of the behind the scenes series featuring Bulldog football preseason camp, get caught up with episode four of Dawg Days. The episode features four separate Bulldog players and their thoughts on how training camp has gone thus far.

🔼 On Field Learning. State’s scrimmage this past weekend gave the younger guys on the defensive side of the ball an opportunity to see some action and show what they can bring on Saturdays this season.

🗣️ “The good thing with those young guys is when they get reps — whether its painful at the time or not - it’s beneficial in the long run. There will be great film to learn off of and teach from.” - Defensive coordinator Matt Brock

With the luxury of an experienced defensive core of talent returning to the gridiron this season, the younger players on the defense will get to play complementary roles moving forward.

🔼 One Down. Keeping up with our former Bulldogs across the pond competing in the 2023 World Athletics Championships, Marta Pen Freitas competed in the first event of the week in the women’s 1500m representing Portugal. In her heat, she finished 10th, and 42nd overall.

🔼 Drawing Sun Devils. State soccer wrapped up their Arizona tour last night after tying Arizona State in a scoreless affair. At halftime, the Bulldogs had held their opponents to zero shots, and in the end only allowed three scoring chances. The offense had a solid showing with 13 total shots, eight of them on goal, but none of them were able to squeak by the last line of defense.

The Bulldogs now get to travel home to Starkville for the regular season home opener against Northwestern State on Thursday night.

🔼 Getting Loose. Before it opens regular season play later this week, Bulldog volleyball opened up the season with an exhibition win against UAB. While it might not have officially counted in the standings, a win heading into the StarkVegas Classic should provide substantial momentum and confidence.

🔼 Good Hands. Although the Bulldogs are likely to move to a more balanced attack in the offense this season, quarterback Will Rogers will still continue to sling it around Davis Wade this season, and with a plethora of quality targets.

State brings back three wideouts who caught 30 or more passes last year, and added a couple more from the transfer portal and their nationally ranked recruiting class.
