Dawg Daily with Neil Price is back folks!

The Mississippi State men’s basketball team has shown offensive improvement in its first two games in Portugal. Coach Richard Williams’ 1993 team had a similar experience during a summer trip to Finland. Coach Williams talks about that, and gives his early impressions about a current crop of Bulldogs in today’s Dawg Daily!

🔼 Outlander. The Outland Trophy goes to the best interior lineman on offense or defense, and State’s own Jaden Crumedy is on the short list of players to make some noise this season for the award. After only five games last season, Crumedy made his presence known with 15 total tackles, including five TFL’s and two sacks.

The graduate student out of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, has been getting national recognition this offseason, and is poised to be one of the quickest and most explosive guys on the State defense this season.

🔼 Solid Summer. The Bulldogs, both current and former, have been showing out on a national stage this season on the diamond. Let’s take a look at who has been putting together a solid summer thus far.

⚾️ Nathaniel Lowe was named the Texas Rangers Player of the Month for July after going .333 at the plate with four home runs and 14 RBI.

⚾️ J.P. France earned himself his seventh win of the season with a victory against the Guardians after allowing just two runs through seven innings of work.

🔼 Greetings from Portugal. As one Bulldog put the current state of affairs for the men’s basketball program, “the vibes are unmatched.” After claiming a pair of victories while holding their opponents to less than 50 points, it’s safe to say the team is enjoying themselves.

While the trip was partly meant to get ready for competition, the Bulldogs have already achieved something equally as important.

🗣️ “We’re already so much closer now than when we left Starkville. We’ve been growing and getting closer, but here, it’s turned into even more of a brotherhood.” - Jimmy Bell Jr.

🔼 Welcome to August. The 2023-24 Mississippi State athletics calendar, at long last, has a lot of upcoming events with the calendar finally turning to August.

⚽️ Bulldog soccer is back in action in just six days! They will open up the season with an exhibition match against Kennesaw State this coming Monday.

🏐 Bulldog volleyball is still 18 days out, but their exhibition match against UAB will open up with home court advantage.

🔼 Watch Out. The nation is taking notice of last year’s anchor of the State defense. Linebacker Nathaniel Watson has been named to the 2023 Bronko Nagurski Trophy watchlist, an award presented to the most outstanding defensive player in college football.

Watson was the second-leading tackler in the SEC last season and was third in the SEC with an average of 8.69 tackles per game. The three (soon to be four) year starter is primed to have a big season as he prepares to be a leader of the defense once again.
