🔼 Impact Player. Bulldog football's Kevin Coleman has been named to the watchlist for the 2024 Paul Hornung Award presented by Texas Roadhouse — an award given to the most versatile player in major college football. In his 2023 season away from Mississippi State, Coleman played in all 14 games with 11 starts. He totaled 26 receptions for 362 yards and two touchdowns while rushing the ball 26 times for 117 yards. He helped lead his team to a 10-4 record, a berth in the ACC Championship game and a spot in the Holiday Bowl.
🔼 Sights Set. Coming off the program's first SEC Championship last season, head coach Charlie Ewing announced the schedule for the 2024-25 campaign, which sees Mississippi State compete in nine tournaments throughout the regular season. For the third straight season, the Bulldogs will begin their campaign by hosting the Carmel Cup at the renowned Pebble Beach Golf Links on August 30. State will conclude their fall season at the Old Waverly Golf Club on October 21st to host their annual home tournament, The Ally where the Bulldogs finished runner-up last season.
🔼 Natural Leader. Mississippi State football kicker Nick Barr-Mira has been named to the 2024 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy watchlist, college football's premier award for community service, and one of the most meaningful awards in all of collegiate sports. Since coming to Starkville before the start of last season, Barr-Mira has been a leader in the locker room and has participated in numerous community service events such as the D.A.W.G. program, Ryan’s Giving Tree and the Emily Chancellor Polar Bear Plunge.
🔼 Special Teams, Special Players. While special teamers may not receive as many on-field reps as their offensive and defensive counterparts, Bulldog football’s special teams coordinator Cliff Odom believes his units will still have plenty of opportunities to create game-altering moments this year.
🗣️ "You have a chance to impact the game on special teams. You can get huge momentum swings. Whether it's blocking a kick or getting a big return, I truly think it's a one-shot, one-kill mentality." - Cliff Odom
Odom is in his first season with the Bulldogs, joining Jeff Lebby's staff in mid-December. But their relationship dates back well beyond their time in Starkville. Odom first met Lebby as a 19-year-old sophomore cornerback at Baylor in 2008 when the latter arrived as the assistant director of football operations. The duo’s bond continued over the next decade-plus across several stops and multiple levels throughout both of their coaching careers.
