🔼 Another Dub. Bulldog soccer continued its strong start to the 2024 season with a commanding 4-0 win over Northwestern State on Sunday afternoon at the MSU Soccer Field. Setting the tone early, Alivia Buxton slotted home the first goal just 4:58 into the match. After a determined defensive effort, the Bulldogs broke the match open late in the second half, scoring on a penalty kick from Aitana Martinez-Montoya and a pair of strikes including one from Naila Schoefberger. Mississippi State has yet to concede a goal this season as Maddy Anderson secured yet another shutout in the Maroon and White, bringing her career total to 27.
🔼 Progress Made. With just two weeks to go before opening up the 2024 campaign against Eastern Kentucky, Mississippi State got another day better on Saturday as the Bulldogs held their second scrimmage of the preseason at Davis Wade Stadium. Head coach Jeff Lebby noted the action looked somewhat similar to what'd transpired six days prior in his team's first scrimmage, however he was proud to see progress had been made.
🗣️ "Both sides of the ball had success. We were much better [Saturday] from a non-playing penalty standpoint, which was good to see on both sides of the ball. We've got to continue to stress that and move that in the right direction." - Jeff Lebby
🔼 State to the Show. With the regular season winding to a close, the former Diamond Dawgs are helping their teams reach the finish line with both individual and team success.
⚾️ Second baseman Adam Frazier is hitting .353 over his last seven games including a 3-for-4 performance with three singles against the Twins during the August 14 matchup.
⚾️ Third baseman Jordan Westburg is helping the surging Baltimore Orioles with a .269 batting average with 58 RBI and an OPS of .814.
⚾️ Since the All-Star Game, outfielder Brent Rooker has posed a threat at the plate, averaging .348 with 12 homers and 33 RBI over his last 30 games.
🔼 Quite the Journey. It's been a long road for Bulldog safety Brylan Lanier, but he's grateful for where it's all led him to now. Lanier plans to make the most of his second chance on the big stage. The man called Brylo by those closest to him has grown as he's paved his path to Starkville, making positive strides that have seemingly built momentum for his time in Maroon and White.
🗣️ "Yeah, it's just all made me more passionate. I give it all I've got. I felt like I lost it all going [from the top level of college football to junior college]. I feel like I lost it all and now I've got it back." - Brylan Lanier
