🔼 Jumping Right In. JUCO transfers and new Bulldogs Trey Fort and Jaquan Scott are hitting the ground running as they start to learn the ways of head coach Chris Jans’ system.

Fort brings the spark of energy the Bulldogs were looking to add to this year’s team after finishing last season at Howard College with nearly 25 ppg with nearly six rebounds and two assists. The NJCAA All-American and offensive weapon is exactly the type of guy that can fit into what the Bulldogs are trying to do.

Scott, the 6-foot-8 forward from Salt Lake CC averaged a double-double last year with just about 17 points per game and 10 rebounds. The traditional four-man put it best when it comes to what the fans should expect, “I’m a dog.”

Read more about both Scott and Fort in this piece courtesy of Joel Coleman.

🔼 Across the Pond. It doesn’t matter where she goes, Bulldog women’s golfer Julia Lopez Ramirez can get the job done. This weekend, she helped her home country Spain capture the win at the 2023 European Ladies’ Team Championships. This SEC Player of the Year is a force on the golf course, and all of Europe got to see that force on display.

🔼 Opponent Preview. It’s a new week, but that doesn’t mean these opponent previews are going anywhere. Last time we left off with South Carolina, but today, we’re going to be walking through one of the most revered teams in all of college football.

Next up, Alabama!

Quick Hits

  • Finished second in the SEC West with a record of 11-2 in 2022

  • Beat #9 Kansas State in the Allstate Sugar Bowl

  • Notable wins: vs. Texas away; vs. Ole Miss away

  • Lost notable top-3 NFL Draftees Bryce Young and Will Anderson Jr.

  • The defense will carry the load for this team; even with the loss of a few talented defensemen to the pros. Alabama has reloaded at every position from linebacker to defensive back.

USC Players to Watch

🏈 QB Jalen Milroe: for the first time in a long time, there seems to be quarterback controversy at Alabama. Milroe is expected to get the starting job with his heightened dual-threat capabilities, but don’t be surprised if other names fill the role during the Dawg’s bout.

🏈 DB Kool-Aid McKinstry: don’t let one of the most fun names in college football fool you; the incoming junior and lockdown corner is coming off a team-leading 15 pass breakups.

🏈 RB Jase McClellan: filling in for the Tide as the newest starting back, McClellan had a solid year last season with over 600 yards rushing and 10 total touchdowns.

🏈 LB Dallas Turner is said to be one of the successors to this year’s third overall pick in the NFL Draft. He finished last year with eight tackles for loss and four sacks behind a whole slew of big names.

What Happened Last Year?

Last season, the Bulldogs had one of their best defensive games of the season in a loss at Tuscaloosa. State held Alabama to just 290 yards on offense (over 200 yards less than the Crimson Tide’s season average at that point) and held them to just 29 rushing yards.
