🔼 Run It Back. The Bulldog’s newest women’s tennis head coach Chris Hooshyar is bringing in a trusted assistant coach in Taylor Russo. She played for Hooshyar during her time at Auburn, and now as State’s newest assistant will rejoin her former coach.

🗣️ “I think she’s a great fit for the girls and that she’s going to be my right-hand lady…I wouldn’t want anybody else.” - Chris Hooshyar

In her lone season as an assistant, Russo helped Wisconsin to a 20-7 overall record that included a victory in the NCAA Championships, their first in 21 years. The former DI player turned coach knows what it takes to build a program, and will be a great fit at MSU for the dynamic coaching duo.

🔼 Leadership. MSU’s athletic department made an addition worth noting after Athletic Director Zach Selmon announced Josh McCowan as State’s Deputy Athletics Director for Athletic Advancement.

🗣️ “Josh is a nationally recognized fundraiser and administrator who has a proven track record of successful strategies and leadership.” - Zach Selmon

Joining the Bulldogs from Manhattan, Kansas, McCowan headed all development and fundraising opportunities for KSU athletics. Under his leadership, the university’s Ahearn Fund set records for giving, including $58.9 million in giving in 2021-2022.

🔼 Defending the Culture. Last year, the foundation was laid, so now it’s time to build on it.

Men’s basketball head coach Chris Jans and strength and conditioning coach Dominick Walker are under the same mindset: there is no time to waste. Summer workouts provide an opportunity to put in hard work that people don’t see, and gives veterans and newcomers alike the opportunity to get better.

🗣️ “When we first got here, it was trying to get the culture started and trying to get everyone on board. Now it’s all about, in my opinion, defending the culture.” - Dominick Walker

🔼 Dear Ol’ State. State’s new women’s tennis coach Chris Hooshyar drops by the Dear Ol’ State podcast to discuss his values as a coach, what excites him about the program, and what he expects from his players as they head into next season.

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: 21!

The win-total also gave head coach Chris Jans the program record for most wins by a first year coach. Like Coach Walker said, it’s time to build on that foundation.

Have a great weekend, y'all.
