Bulldog Brew 6/15: Big Hitters

State’s Best, Talking Softball, and much more!

Good morning! Time to wind it back to this past spring. MSU women’s basketball balled out last season, and SEC All-Freshman Team selection Debreasha Powe was a big part of the Bulldog’s success. We know basketball is played indoors, but don’t be surprised if Powe doesn’t start raining three’s.

What else did we toss into the Brew today?

🔼 State’s Best. MSU men’s golf has already locked in a premier location for next season’s schedule. Coming off a NCAA Regional win and NCAA Championship appearance, the Bulldogs will head to Biloxi, Mississippi, for the Fallen Oak Collegiate Invitational this coming October.

Fallen Oak Golf Course, a consensus Top 100 Golf Course by Golf Digest for nine years running, will feature a 12-team field, including SEC foes LSU, Ole Miss and Auburn. All but one team in the field made an NCAA Regionals appearance as a team or represented by an individual. Golfweek’s ‘Mississippi’s Best Course You Can Play’ since the year 2009 is certainly a look-ahead spot for the Bulldogs, and a place where Coach Dusty Smith and the rest of the team will look to tee off the season on a high draw.

🔼 Right At Home. JUCO transfer Jacoby Bellazar has had to prove a lot during his time as a footballer, but one thing is clear, Mississippi State is the place he wants to be.

After focusing on track for most of his life, Bellazar decided to give football a try before the start of his sophomore season. As they say, the rest is history. Not receiving any offers out of high school, he decided to attend Southwest Mississippi Community College where he amassed 65 receptions, 1138 yards, and 10 touchdowns in his two years with the team.

“All my life, I liked Mississippi State. That was my dream school.” Bellazar, the No. 5 JUCO receiver in the country found his decision simple once the Bulldogs sent over his offer letter. For more on his time at State thus far this summer, read here.

🔼 Talking Baseball. In this episode of Dear Ol’ State, part of the HailState+ Podcast Network, listen in with former Diamond Dawg Ben Jenkins and how he continues to impact the game beyond his playing days. Dive in to his story about his growing sports goods company, Warstic, as well as reminiscing on his playing days repping the Maroon and White.
