🔼 A New Beginning. For the last decade, Chris Hooshyar has been motivating players to be the best version of themselves. Now, he joins State as its newest women’s tennis head coach.

The Englishman then began his coaching career as a volunteer assistant with the Mustangs, but moved to Auburn where he has coached since 2014. He joins the Bulldogs with a decorated resume including an ITA National Assistant Coach of the Year in 2016, and most recently in 2022, earned a ITA Southern Region Assistant of the Year. Hooshyar played collegiate tennis at SMU and served as the team captain for two years.

The first-year head coach will look to turn the women’s tennis program into a blue collar program, wants, “other teams to know when they play our team, they’re in for an absolute fight.” Read more about Coach Hooshyar and his expectations for the program moving forward.

🔼 Coming In Hot. MSU alum Mia Davidson-Smith is back for her second year with Athletes Unlimited to continue her pro career. The AUX season features a fast-paced, shortened version of a softball league that will determine a champion in the next three weeks.

Last season, Davidson-Smith finished in the top 10 in the league in OPS, slugging percentage, home runs, and walks and her championship team. Tune in on ESPNU and ESPN2 to see more softball action, and our very own Bulldog represent the program at the next level.

🔼 State To The Show. Both current and former Bulldogs continue to shine on the diamond all across the country, with many earning weekly honors, and picking up big wins for their teams at the pro level.

  • Brent Rooker keeps on doing his thing as he and the A’s continue their five-game hot streak. Rooker is hitting .263 on the season and hit his 13th homer of the season to cap off a series sweep in Milwaukee.

  • Adam Frazier is contributing to one of the top teams in the MLB in the Baltimore Orioles. He hit his seventh home run of the season to help sweep the Royals and move just five games back of the best team in baseball.
