Good morning! It’s a good day to be a Bulldog, especially if you’re MSU golfer Hunter Logan. After a strong opening to the tournament, Logan finished as the 2023 Dogwood Invitational champion after shooting 20-under par. That’s another win for the good guys.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Reaching New Highs. The 2023 track and field outdoor season has come to a close, and MSU graduate, Tony Jones, capped it off the best way he knew how: with a podium finish.

Jones not only closed out the season, but his career, on Friday night in the high jump event with a height of 2.16 meters (7 feet 1 inch). There were ten individuals that reached the same height as the Bulldog jumper, but since Jones only needed two jumps to reach the mark, he edged out the others for a spot on the podium in a tie for fourth place. Along with a podium finish, Jones earned First Team All-American honors for his efforts.

🔼 Top Dawgs. The men’s tennis season has come and gone, and the ITA has ranked the Bulldogs No. 1 in the Southern Regional rankings after what was another incredible season on the court. State took the top spot from surrounding schools including Ole Miss, LSU, and Auburn.

Along with a top spot in the team rankings, the ITA placed Nemanja Malesevic, Ewen Lumsden, Carles Hernandez, Benito Sanchez Martinez, and Petar Jovanovic in the top-15 among singles players in the region. No other school had more than two players in the top 15. The team finished the season with a 21-8 record, including a 17-1 record at home and an NCAA Regional championship.

🔼 Welcome To The Show. There will be a new face joining the men’s golf team next year in Starkville, and his name is Josep Serra. Serra was a member of the NCAA DII National Championship team this season, and won two of his matches in bracket play, including securing his team a point in the championship match.

The incoming junior averaged 72.25 strokes last season, and finished with 16 rounds at par or better, including seven rounds in the 60’s. The already highly-decorated golfer was named the 2022 NCAA DII Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman, PING Honorable Mention All-American, All-Region selection, and Sunshine State Conference Freshman of the Year. In summary, a player you definitely want on your side.

“He is a very talented player who will be a huge asset to our program. We are thrilled to add Josep to our Mississippi State golf family,” said head coach Dusty Smith on the addition of Serra.

The Glory Days. Wide receivers coach Chad Bumphis is no stranger to the football field, and as a player at State, he dominated opponents with his explosive energy, and incredible hands.

During his four-year career, Coach Bumphis accumulated 24 receiving touchdown and one rushing touchdown. His breakout season came during his senior year when he racked up career-high numbers with 58 receptions, 922 receiving yards, and 12 total touchdowns.
