🔼 Tickets Punched. It was quite the successful opening day at NCAA East Regionals for the Bulldogs as three of their student-athletes qualified for the National Championships in a few weeks.

  • Needing a top-12 finish in the javelin, both Tyriq Horsford and Remi Rougetet threw well enough to head to Austin, TX, the site of the championships. Horsford earned his third appearance to the outdoor championships after placing ninth with a distance of 71.25 meters. Rougetet will be making his first appearance in the championships with an eleventh place finish after a 70.67 meter toss.

  • Cameron Crump, the high-flying man, earned himself a spot in the national championship after finishing second with an attempt of 7.77 meters. This marks his third time making a trip to the Outdoor National Championships.

Also worth noting, all three 400 meter participants in Lee Eppie, Anthony Brodie, and Doval Simmonds qualified for Friday’s final to determine who will be making a championship appearance. Joining the 400 meter boys is a man who races in double the distance, Navasky Anderson, who qualified for a Friday final as well. NCAA East Regional action continues tomorrow as more Bulldogs look to prolong their season.

🔼 No Score Zone. Head coach James Armstrong announced this week there’s a new goalie coming to Starkville to protect the net. Taylor Thames will suit up with the Bulldogs as a grad transfer and will have one year left of NCAA eligibility.

The two-sport athlete joining State from Cal State Northridge put up career numbers last year in matches started (8), minutes played (720), and saves (60). During her 2019 campaign, she saw her save percentage go up as high as 93% and won all matches she started that season. She also spent two seasons on the track team primarily as a sprinter in the 100 and 200 meter races.

“She is a very explosive goalie. I am confident she will add to our team both on and off the field,” said Coach Armstrong about the addition of Thames. Safe to say, Thames will make an impact for this Bulldog soccer team immediately when play begins later this fall.

🔼 Greatness Loading... Athlon Sports is back at it again with their picks for the All-American team for this upcoming football season. Two of the nation’s best, and MSU’s very own, made that preseason list.

Linebacker Nathaniel Watson and wide receiver Tulu Griffin made it onto a prestigious list of names for this upcoming season, and have been recognized by the organization as future All-Americans. Each played significant roles last season, and will only look to expound on the impact they will have for the Dawgs come football season later this year.

🤔 BULLDOG TRIVIA

Long Toss. Some of our MSU athletes can really throw a javelin. Even our past track and field athletes have set some records in this very event, in the very same place where our Bulldogs are competing this week.

Our question today — do you know who holds the ‘Visit Jax Track and Hodges Stadium’ facility record for the longest-recorded javelin throw?

Hint: It’s a Bulldog!

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: Anderson Peters!

Back in 2019, Anderson Peters tossed the javelin an astounding 80.06 meters, good enough to break a facility record in Jacksonville. For reference, that throw would have nearly cleared an entire football field.

Have a great Thursday, y'all.
