📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Touch ‘Em All Larry. There’s something about The Dude that gets these Dawgs riled up. If you missed it, State baseball started off the regular season series finale with a bang, courtesy of Amani Larry’s two run walk-off home run.

Amani Larry, last night’s hero, finished the night as the game MVP after going 3-4 with two home runs and three RBI’s. For a chance at a comeback, it took a incredible performance on the mound by reliever KC Hunt who tossed 4.2 innings, allowed just one earned run and struck out eight. After allowing seven runs in the first five innings, Hunt, as well as Nate Dohm who closed out the game and got the win, gave the Dawgs a fighting chance after allowing just one run the rest of the way.

The Bulldogs were down one heading into the ninth and after a wild pitch and Larry’s two-run shot, (seriously, watch this electric call of the game-winning homer) MSU came out on top. The series continues today against Texas A&M where State will look to close out the regular season with a series win.

🔼 Three More. More awards are coming softball’s way as three Bulldogs were named to a NFCA All-Region team. The selections marked the 11th year in a row at least one member of an MSU softball team has been named to an All-Region team.

  • Aquana Brownlee earned Second Team honors after her breakout season where she led the team in both batting average and on-base percentage within SEC play. She hit a career-high eight home runs alongside 35 RBI’s after accumulated just 15 in her previous three seasons.

  • Chloe Malau’ulu earned Third Team honors and her second career selection to an All-Region team. She closes her Bulldog career ranking ninth in multi-hit games with 51 and doubles with 37.

  • Paige Cook earned Third Team honors after ranking in the top 10 in SEC play in slugging percentage, home runs, and sacrifice flies. She was recognized as a designated player/utility role, and struck out in just 5.2% of her plate appearances.

🔼 Moving On Up. With nearly two decades of coaching experience, James Miller has been elevated by men’s basketball head coach Chris Jans to the associate head coach. In just his second year, the up-and-coming coach earned his promotion on the staff after helping lead the team to an NCAA Tournament berth in the 2022-2023 season.

“Coach Miller is a one-of-a-kind coach. He’s a rarity in that he has no holes in his skill set, he can do it all,’ said Coach Jans who has had Miller on his coaching staff for the past six seasons. As an assistant coach, James Miller has accumulated a total of 115 victories with a .747 winning percentage during his five seasons working alongside Jans. If you ask us, that’s a guy who deserves to be recognized, and Coach Jans has rewarded him for his performance.
