🔼 Winner Winner. For the first time in program history, Bulldogs men’s golf are NCAA Regional champs. It’s the first time since 2008 that MSU is headed to the NCAA Championship, and they did so by beating the No. 6 and No. 7 teams in the country. They were the only team of the region to finish the tournament under-par, and had four golfer finish in the top-20.

Hunter Logan and Ford Clegg finished as the low men of the team at even-par in a tie for seventh after all was said and done. Rounding out the foursome was Pedro Cruz Silva and Garrett Endicott who each finished one shot behind them at one over-par for the tournament. Head coach Dusty Smith had this to say after coming away with the win:

“They put so much hard work in, and they left it all out on the line. For us to come out regional champions is pretty special.“

With the ticket officially punched, the Bulldogs will head to Scottsdale, AZ on May 26th to hopefully continue their momentum and compete for a chance at the NCAA title.

🔼 Giving Back. In the end, it’s about leaving a place better than you found it, and MSU baseball player Luke Hancock has done his best to make true on that staement. The MSU baseball team captain was named to the SEC Community Service Team for his activity in supporting Starkville and the surrounding communities. Ih his spare time, he has assisted with the annual Salvation Army Red Kettle program and volunteered with the Miracle League which gives children with disabilities the chance to play baseball.

Along with his work off the field, on the field, he’s been a solid contributor in his final season with the Bulldogs. He sits right at a .297 batting average, and is second on the team in walks with 41 this season. In total, Hancock has played 207 games for State over his four year career, and has given that same effort, and more, to the community in his time at State.

🔼 A True Leader. Every great crew needs a great captain, and fifth year senior Hannah Levi has been the one to take on that role as her career on the course has progressed.

Levi, who has been a member of the women’s golf team for half a decade, has shown time and time again that she is a reliable and steadfast player that her team can lean on. “When she speaks, people listen,” said MSU women’s golf head coach Charlie Ewing. She delivers on the course as well, as she showed last week when the Bulldogs captured their first ever NCAA Regional win in program history. Levi finished third overall for the tournament en route to the win.

Next week, the captain, as well as the rest of the Bulldogs, will head to Scottsdale, AZ for a chance at the NCAA Championship title. “I know everybody is really excited for her to have a great national championship,” added Coach Ewing. Read more here about Levi’s journey, and determination to become one of MSU’s elite golfers.
