šŸ”¼ Thriving Through Conditions. After a tough day in Morgan Hill, CA, the Bulldogs remain the only team in the field under par after two rounds at NCAA Regionals. Heading into the final round today, State holds a three stroke lead over second place, and need only a fifth place finish or better to advance to the NCAA Championships.

ā€œThe golf course player extremely difficult, and Iā€™m really proud of the fight we showed today,ā€ said head coach Dusty Smith after the end of round two. Ruan Pretorius really stepped up, improving his position by 17 spots after carding a two over-par, and second best team score of the day. Ford Clegg lead the way for the Bulldogs with an even-par 70 to put him in a tie for fourth headed into the final round.

In total, four Bulldogs head into day three in the top-25, and have a real chance at taking first place in the region. Stay tuned with the live results to see if MSU can pull through with an amazing wire-to-wire win.

šŸ”¼ Big Ups. After an impressive showing in the SEC Outdoor Championships, the conference announced four Bulldogs that earned their spot on the All-SEC Second Team.

  • Peyton Bair earned his second career selection after finishing third in the Decathlon after finishing with his personal best for his career with a total of 7,903 points.

  • Tyriq Horsford was selected to his second overall SEC honor with his performance in the outdoor javelin after placing third with a throw of 71.66 meters.

  • Tony Jones, a first time member of the SEC awards, finished third in the high jump en route to his selection with a mark of 2.18 meters.

  • Cameron Crump after barely missing the podium the past two season, finally cracked through and earned third place in the long jump with an attempt of 8.00 meters that earned him the selection.

These athletes, with their newly won awards, will head to the NCAA Regional Championships later this month to compete for a chance at a title.

šŸ”¼ Diamond Awards. Hitting the ball, hitting the books, it doesnā€™t matter, our Bulldogs can do it all. A total of eight Diamond Dawgs were named to the Academic All-District Team including three players from baseball and five from softball (the max allowed by a single school).

Each selection had to maintain above a 3.5 GPA and were awarded based on their impressive play on the field. Among the baseball honorees were outfielders Kellum Clark and Bryce Chance and pitcher Cade Smith. As for softball, catcher Jackie McKenna, infielders Riley Hull, Kat Wallace, Madisyn Kennedy, and outfielder Chloe Malauā€™ulu earned selections to the team. The athletes now move on to a national vote where they are eligible to be selected to three All-American teams. Our Bulldogs really know how to put in hard work, and it showed both on the field, and in the classroom.

šŸ”¼ Among the Best. As the womenā€™s golf team prepares for their final battle in the NCAA Championships later this month, one golfer in particular is getting added to quite the list.

The SEC Player of the Year, Julia Lopez Ramirez has been named to the DI Ping WGCA Player of the Year Watch List as one of seven elite golfers in the country. The top honor in womenā€™s collegiate golf has determined JLR is someone who is deserving of the award, and we could not agree more. With a scoring average of 70.31 and winning three individual titles, including her most recent at NCAA Regionals to go to the NCAA Championships, Lopez Ramirez is certainly qualified to appear on that list.

Even with all the hype, Lopez Ramirez, and the rest of the Bulldog team, remains focused for later this week as Championship play begins on May 19th.
