🔼 Strong Showing. After an impressive showing in Baton Rouge this weekend, Bulldog track and field wrapped up the event with seven top-10 finishes.

  • Rosealee Cooper finished fifth in the 100-meter hurdles this weekend with a time of 13.00. The mark lead to a spot on the all-time leaderboard for fifth in Bulldog history.

  • Cameron Crump leapt his way to the podium after posting an eight meter jump in the long jump event and earned a third place finish.

  • The women’s 4×100 meter relay made history on Saturday night after posting a 44.79, good enough for second-best in Bulldog history. The team was comprised of McKenzie Calloway, Rosealee Cooper, Kamay Debose-Epps, and Jessicka Woods.

Up next, State, who earned qualifying marks throughout the season, will advance to NCAA Regionals in Jacksonville, FL later this month to continue the road to the Outdoor Championships.

🔼 Comeback Kids. After dropping the first game of the series in Baton Rouge, the Bulldogs made it known that they are a team to be reckoned with.

Saturday’s game saw LSU jump out to an early lead, but a sixth run eighth inning propelled the Bulldogs into the win column. The eighth inning explosion was lead by Kellum Clark’s two run shot that tied the game, and ended with a moonshot to deep right field by Colton Ledbetter. Closer Aaron Nixon came in the ninth inning to wrap things up and send the series to a tie after a 9-4 win.

Sunday’s game was one of the crazier games of the year for this Bulldogs team. After getting down 13-4 entering the sixth inning, State tuned in and turned up the bats. Dakota Jordan drove in four in two innings of work thanks to a scoreboard-hitting three run shot and RBI single, and State Alford tied the game up after being down nine runs with a two run home run of his own in the seventh inning.

Ultimately, it was MSU’s pitching that got it done, as the Bulldogs pitching staff allowed just two hits in LSU’s final six innings. At the end of regulation, the score was tied at 13 and needed extras to be decided. State got on the board at the top of the 10th after a fielder’s choice led to Amani Larry crossing home to put the Bulldogs up one. In the bottom half of the inning, the Bulldog defense came up clutch and turned a game-sealing double play to give MSU the series win.

There’s fight in this team alright, and the fight continues Tuesday as the Bulldogs face off against North Alabama in Starkville for the final home stand of the season.

🔼 Strides Made. In State’s 100th season of men’s tennis, the Bulldogs fell short of a quarterfinal appearance in Fort Worth, TX this weekend.

The Bulldogs couldn’t come up with the doubles point and went down to an early 1-0 deficit. Carles Hernandez came up with a masterful showing and earned a singles point for his seventh victory over a ranked opponent this season. It was too little, too late however, as TCU took the match 4-1, ending the 2023 season for the Bulldogs.

MSU has a bright future ahead for the program, with five of the seven 2023 athletes returning next year. The Bulldogs finish the season 21-8 overall, and will look to return to the NCAA Championships for a fifth time in six seasons next year.

🔼 West Coast Dawgs. Bulldogs men’s golf is headed to the west coast as they begin their journey for a chance at the NCAA Championships. First, they head to regionals in Morgan Hill, CA and will compete in a three-day, 54 hole tournament to try and compete their way to Scottsdale, AZ. The top five teams in each region will advance to the next round.

All-SEC Freshman Garrett Endicott and senior Ford Clegg will look to lead the team to a top-5 finish after a solid season from each golfer including a combined eight top-10 individual finishes on the season. Senior Hunter Logan will look to continue his hot end to the season after finishing the regular season with three of four team-best finishes.

NCAA Regional play begins this morning, and to stay up to date on all the golf action, follow along to the team’s social accounts, or check in here for live updates throughout the day.
