Bulldog Brew 4/12: Full Slate

Today, All For Alex Weekend and women’s golf heads to SEC Championship

Good morning! Not only is Bulldog softball’s Madisyn Kennedy one of the best hitters in the SEC; she has one of the best bats in the country. Kennedy’s eight home runs, 16 walks, 25 RBI and 1.103 slugging percentage all lead the SEC heading into the weekend.

What else did we throw into today’s Bulldog Brew?

🎥 THE DUDES

The Dudes: Ring of Honor (S.1 E.3). The Ron Polk Ring of Honor recognizes the very best to come through the Mississippi State baseball program. This year, former pitcher Bobby Reed and current radio announcer Jim Ellis were inducted for their achievements and had their names enshrined at Dudy Noble Field. Hear from both Jim and Bobby as they reminisce on their careers and reflect on what this honor means to them.

🎙️ DEAR OL’ STATE

Dear Ol’ State: More From Spring Practice. Joel Coleman and Logan Lowery bring you two more interviews from spring football practice on the latest episode of Dear Ol' State. Offensive lineman Grant Jackson and defensive lineman Deonte Anderson check-in, plus hear from State softball head coach Samantha Ricketts ahead of All for Alex Weekend across the SEC.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 All For Alex. The SEC softball community will be united on April 13 when all 13 teams participate in the fourth annual "All for Alex" weekend to honor the legacy of Mississippi State's Alex Wilcox. Wilcox was a member of the 2018 Mississippi State softball team who inspired the nation with her courageous fight against ovarian cancer. That fight ultimately took her life in the summer of 2018. The Bulldogs will wear their white uniforms with teal lettering while the Lady Volunteers will wear teal jersey tops.

🔼 Caring For Starkville. Two of Bulldog tennis’ best were named to the SEC Community Service Team for their efforts in donating time and energy towards the Starkville community this year.

Maria Rizzolo spent time with senior citizens at the Goldton at Adelaide helping them clean and organize at that facility. She also handed out meals and donated canned goods to Starkville Strong, walked and bathed dogs for the Oktibbeha County Humane Society and helped clean up State’s campus.

Carles Hernandez played tennis with students in Mississippi State's ACCESS Program, which serves students with intellectual or developmental disabilities, and also helped hand out meals to those in need as part of the Starkville Strong: Neighbors Helping Neighbors program on multiple occasions.

🔼 Magnolia State Showdown. The Diamond Dawgs will play for the state of Mississippi as the Bulldogs go head to head against in-state rivals, Ole Miss, in a three-game series this weekend. Sitting in third in the SEC West standings, State will look to climb closer to the top of the list. The Bulldogs have not played since last weekend after the midweek cancellation of the game against UAB due to weather but will be riding the momentum from last weekend’s series win over Georgia.

🔼 Reaching The End. Bulldog women’s tennis will close out its first season under head coach Chris Hooshyar this weekend with a pair of home matches. On Friday, State will take on Arkansas, followed by a Sunday finale against Missouri. The match against the Razorbacks will be the 12th -consecutive ranked opponent the Bulldogs have faced in SEC play.

🔼 Championship Weekend. Mississippi State women’s golf is off to the SEC Championships this weekend as the team heads to Bellaire, Florida. Last year, the Bulldogs nearly won it all but fell to Texas A&M in the final match. The Bulldogs finished the regular season with a pair of top-two team finishes while senior Julia Lopez Ramirez tallied one individual title on the year with her win at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate.
