📈 STOCK UP

🔼 The State’s Top Dawgs. In front of a sold-out crowd at The Hump, Mississippi State men’s basketball used a strong second-half effort to take control and take down instate rival Ole Miss, 83-71. State held the Rebels to just 27 points in the second half. The win marked the Bulldogs’ fourth straight and improved the team’s record to 18-8 on the season. Tolu Smith III led the team with 24 points, 18 of which he scored in the first half. Shakeel Moore saw 35 minutes of action and contributed 12 points and five rebounds, and KeShawn Murphy added 12 points of his own. Cameron Matthews did it all with 11 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals.

🔼 Closing Time. Bulldog men’s golf capped off their run at the Watersound Invitational with a ninth-place finish after going 3-under par for the tournament. In the final round, three State golfers finished in the red figures as Josep Serra led the way with an impressive 6-under par round. Serra carded five birdies and an eagle en route to his score of 66 as he finished tied for 13th. Alejandro Fierro, playing as an individual, finished strong with a 3-under-par round, and Hunter Logan finished his showing with an even-par 72. State will return to the tee box on March 11 to compete in the Seminole Intercollegiate in Tallahassee, FL.

🔼 First Time. For the first time in her career, State women’s golfer Avery Weed was named SEC Freshman of the Week. Weed earned the accolade from her play at the Nexus Collegiate Invitational last week where she finished the tournament as runner-up with a score of 1-under par. The second-place finish marked Weed's best placing in a collegiate tournament and her first finish in the top five. This also marked the best finish for a freshman in program history since the 2022 season.

🔼 High Scoring Affair. The Diamond Dawgs came out hot putting up five runs in the first inning, but were unable to come away with the victory. Amani Larry led the game off with his first home run of the season — the first since May 21, 2022, when RJ Yeager hit a leadoff home run against Tennessee. Larry went 2-for-5 at the plate with a home run, an RBI and three runs. Hunter Hines went 2-for-4 with a double. He drove in a team-high three RBIs against the Governors while Dakota Jordan and Dylan Cupp each picked up a hit in the contest. State will be back in action for a weekend series versus Georgia Southern on Friday at 4 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
