Today, a men’s basketball recap and two players from women’s basketball earned weekly honors

Good morning! The Hump is a special place to be right now, and no one has understood that more than Bulldog women’s basketball head coach Sam Purcell. In his second season at the helm, Purcell notched his first top-10 win in what he described as “a dream come true”.

🎥 ONE

One: Swamp Queens. Following the Bulldogs’ big win over LSU, get caught up on the season-long docuseries, “One”, to see all the behind-the-scenes action from the coaches and players.

In this episode of "One," we follow senior guard, Darrione Rogers, as the crew gets back to work after the successful weekend. Additionally, dive into the swamp as the team travels to Gainesville to take on the Gators. The electrifying wire-to-wire win, securing an 89-77 score, underscores the unwavering spirit and collective effort of the team.

🎥 BEYOND THE ARC

Beyond The Arc: He’s Back. All season long, HailState+ is following Bulldog men’s basketball to give you behind-the-scenes access to players and coaches.

In this episode, Tolu Smith III has returned! The SEC portion of the schedule kicks off with the Bulldogs battling the Gamecocks in South Carolina. After a tough loss, watch Smith lead the Bulldogs to an upset victory over the 5th-ranked Tennessee Volunteers after missing the first half of the season due to a foot injury.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Over In Oxford. The Bulldogs put up one of the best offensive performances of the season but fell short in the 86-82 loss on the road to Ole Miss. Mississippi State converted 53.6 percent of its field goals and shot 8-for-18 from long range and 14-for-20 from the charity stripe.

Four State players finished the night in double digits with Josh Hubbard leading the way with 21 points. Cameron Matthews put up an efficient 16 points on 8-11 shooting, and off the bench, Dashawn Davis gave the Bulldogs 15 points in just 16 minutes on the floor. State will look to bounce back on Saturday night when they take on Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

🔼 New Digs. Former Diamond Dawg Adam Frazier has found himself a new home for the 2024 MLB season. Frazier signed with the Kansas City Royals on a one-year contract with the Spring Training fast approaching. The second baseman accumulated 99 hits last season with a career-high 13 home runs and 60 RBIs.

🔼 Weekly Honors. For the first time in both Bulldogs’ collegiate careers, Jerkaila Jordan and Mjracle Sheppard were voted SEC weekly award winners. Jordan earned Co-SEC Player of the Week and Sheppard was selected as the Co-Freshman of the Week following their performances in the upset victory over No. 9 LSU. Jordan finished the game against the Tigers with 24 points on 9-17 shooting from the field and added five steals, four rebounds and two assists. Sheppard filled the stat sheet with 12 points with a team-highs in assists (5) and steals (6).

🔼 Filling In. Philadelphia Eagles cornerback and former Bulldog Darius Slay is headed to the Pro Bowl. The defensive back got the nod to participate in the Pro Bowl Games following this weekend’s championship games. Slay joins Chris Jones who will make the trip, but instead, will be playing in the Big Game on Feb. 11.
