📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Sun Shining Play. After her stellar performance in the swamp, Jessika Carter was named the Texaco Star of the Game. Carter recorded her 36th career double-double with 20 points and 15 rebounds on 10-15 from the field against the Gators. With the win, Mississippi State moved to 18-0 since head coach Sam Purcell joined the Bulldogs last season, and 8-0 this season, when Carter records a double-double.

Carter and the rest of Bulldog women’s basketball will be back in action when it hosts LSU on Monday, Jan. 29 inside Humphrey Coliseum.

🔼 Then There Were Two. Following an intense NFL Divisional round, only two former Bulldog football players remain in their chase for the Lombardi Trophy. Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones and linebacker Willie Gay Jr. will star in the AFC Championship game this Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens for a trip to the Super Bowl.

In the divisional win against Buffalo, Jones recorded a QB hurry, a pass deflection, and a forced fumble. He finished the weekend with the third-highest defensive grade among defensive interior linemen and second-best tackling grade. Gay recorded one tackle for loss and helped out in coverage - finishing with the sixth-best grade among defenders in the divisional round.

Although the Chiefs will need a win at Baltimore to punch their ticket back to the Super Bowl, there will be at least one guaranteed MSU alum on the field for the Big Game. Former Diamond Dawg Brad Freeman (1995-98) was chosen to serve as the back judge on the Super Bowl officiating crew.

🔼 Dear Ol’ State. Here’s another episode from the Dear Ol’ State podcast for Bulldog Nation! Going down the lineup, Joel Coleman and Logan Lowery meet up with pitcher Karson Ligon and infielder/outfielder Connor Hujsak to talk all things Diamond Dawgs ahead of the team’s season opener.
