Bulldog Brew 1/24: For The Fans

Today men’s basketball heads to Gainesville and State softball is developing two-way talents

Good morning! Following one of the most successful seasons in the history of the program, the Soccer Dawgs are already back on the pitch and hungry for more as they get ready for the 2024 season.

What else did we throw into today’s Bulldog Brew?

🥎 Developing two-way talents
🐶 And much, much more!

🎥 ONE

One: Dawg Food (S.1 E.8). It's a new year and "One" is back in full swing for SEC play. After starting with back-to-back losses to Vanderbilt and South Carolina, Sam Purcell and the Bulldogs focused on re-centering the team on each other. The results are too good not to watch.

🎥 DEAR OL’ STATE

Dear Ol’ State: Dawgs Conquer ‘Dores. Over the weekend, Mississippi State men's basketball did exactly what it needed to do and returned to the win column with a home triumph over Vanderbilt. On the latest edition of Dear Ol' State, Joel Coleman and Logan Lowery talk about what the victory over the Commodores means and bring you the reactions from Bulldog players Tolu Smith III and Trey Fort.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Taking On Gators. Bulldog men’s basketball will look to string together SEC wins and get back to .500 in conference play in the matchup against Florida this evening. The 13-5 Bulldogs took down Vanderbilt, 68-55, last time out, and will look to expound on the success they saw in the paint and on the boards.

Playing in Gainesville, State will look to come away with a win in Gator territory for the first time since 2020. Despite the lack of success on the road against them, the Bulldogs have picked up victories in four of the last six meetings in the series against Florida.

🔼 Fan Day. It’s nearly time for the Diamond Dawgs to return to the field for the 2024 season, and in anticipation of the big event, Mississippi State will host Fan Day on Saturday, Feb. 10 at the Palmeiro Center. The 2024 roster and head coach Chris Lemonis will be signing autographs, while other activities including photos with the 2021 College World Series championship trophy, Maroon Memories Stadium Tours, appearances by the MSU Diamond Girls and more will be available to the public.

🔼 Two Way Talents. The ability to perform both in the circle and at the plate will provide a huge advantage for the Bulldogs, and two-way players like Lexi Sosa will be one of those players to step up against the competition.

🗣️ "I feel like pitchers that can hit have a bigger advantage because we read spins, and we know pitchers' tendencies. When we go into the box, I'm reading if she's doing a rise ball, if it's breaking late, if it's breaking early or if it's a change-up. Being a hitter as a pitcher is a big threat to any team." - Matalasi Faapito

The Bulldog’s new pitching coach, Taryne Mowatt-McKinney, will be able to provide some insight on just how valuable two-way players can be. Read more about Mowatt-McKinney, her success as a collegiate player, and how she is helping transfer her skills to some of State’s players.

🔼 Season Ticket Renewals. Less than 10 days remain until renewal incentives end for Bulldog football season tickets! Renew your tickets today to see the start of the Coach Lebby era and for a chance to be selected for VIP experiences, signed gear and more.
