What else did we throw into today’s Bulldog Brew?

🏀 A battle in Lexington
🏈 Pro Dawgs moving on
🐶 And much, much more!

🎥 BEST OF 2023

Perseverance: The Segars Story. After an unexpected medical issue sidelined Anna Kate Segars in 2021, she faced a long road of diagnostic testing and recovery with her eyes set on an improbable return to the field. After 692 days away from the game she loves, Segars returned to play in 2023. Despite posting a .000 batting average, she found a victory in persevering through the journey and hopes her story can inspire others facing a difficult season in life.

🎥 ONE

One: Dawg Food (S.1 E.8). It's a new year and "One" is back in FULL swing for SEC play. After starting with back-to-back losses to Vanderbilt and South Carolina, Sam Purcell and the Bulldogs focused on re-centering the team on each other...and the results are too good not to watch.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Tough Battle In Lexington. Bulldog forward Tolu Smith III had a season-best performance, but it wasn’t enough to lift State past No. 8 Kentucky. The Bulldogs staged an early second-half comeback to cut the lead to six points, but could not gain any more ground and fell 90-77 on the road.

Trey Fort finished as the one other State player in double-digits with 13 points off the bench while Cameron Matthews contributed in all aspects of the game with eight points, eight rebounds, six assists, a block and a steal. Next up, the Bulldogs will get set to host Vanderbilt on Saturday in Humphrey Coliseum.

🔼 Getting Back Up. After starting SEC play down 0-2, there was never a doubt that head coach Sam Purcell would help his team bounce back. And bounce back they have.

🗣️ "Sometimes you got to get knocked down to get up. Our kids are motivated. Like I told y'all last game against Arkansas, we've got some dogs. Most importantly, some Mississippi State Bulldogs." - Sam Purcell

The Bulldogs rattled off two wins to bring their conference record back to 2-2 on the season after a hard-fought, close win over the Arkansas Razorbacks. Jessika Carter found her footing after recording her 35th career double-double, and the defense from the team helped earn them the win after forcing 18 turnovers and three blocked shots.

🗣️ "I honestly believe it with all my heart that this one of the best jobs in the country. Our fan base is special. There was just an energy that I wanted to make sure that we thanked them. And then life is hard, man. We've been beat up. I keep telling y'all that we've been beat up. But like I said, you've got to get knocked down to get up." - Sam Purcell

🔼 Moving Along. Four teams featuring former Bulldog football players are moving on to the divisional round of the NFL Playoffs. Among them are Willie Gay Jr. and Chris Jones of the Kansas City Chiefs and Preston Smith and Elgton Jenkins of the Green Bay Packers.

Jones and Gay are looking to repeat as Super Bowl champions. Gay ranked fifth among NFL linebackers in the playoffs' first round, with a 70-pressure grade. Jones finished fourth in run defense (76.8) and fifth in overall defensive grade (81) amongst all interior defenders this past weekend.

Smith and Jenkins are moving on after helping the Packers become the first No. 7 seed to knock off a No. 2 seed in NFL Playoff history. Smith recorded a sack while Jenkins helped pave the way for the Packers' offense to produce 415 yards and score four touchdowns.

🔼 Schedule Update. The Bulldog women’s basketball game against Tennessee has been moved up to 4 p.m. due to inclement weather conditions affecting the Southeast and surrounding areas. Please plan accordingly!
