Bulldog Brew 11/30: Helping Hands

Today, a women's basketball recap and a pair of Bulldogs are giving back

Good morning! A quick check in on how our former Bulldogs who play on Sundays are performing:

  • QB Dak Prescott is in the conversation for MVP honors after a 331-yard, four-TD performance.

  • DL Denico Autry became the first Titans player since 2001 to record 8+ sacks in three consecutive seasons.

  • DL Jeffery Simmons, playing alongside Autry, recorded three tackles for a loss, a sack, and a fumble recovery—all while earning the Week 12 NFLPA Community Service MVP.

…and those are just a few of the former Dawgs balling out in the NFL right now. Check out the full list of Bulldogs showing out every Sunday and how they did specifically this past week.

🔼 Eye of the Storm. The Bulldogs played it close all game long in their ACC/SEC Challenge, but ultimately fell 74-68 for the first loss of the season. State was down two starters to injury and three total post-players were unavailable tonight, and yet, they almost found a way to win.

🗣️ “I had seven players in the locker room that said 'Coach, give me a jersey and we will find a way'. I couldn't be prouder of them in a night where we were just a couple points shy in the fourth quarter." - Sam Purcell, head coach

State held the lead at halftime and headed into the fourth quarter all knotted up, but were unable to take back the lead before the final buzzer sounded. Lauren Park-Lane led the team with 20 points and added 10 assists while Debreasha Powe and Darrione Rogers added 12 and 11 points respectively to keep the game close. The 8-1 Bulldogs will get back to it this Sunday after hitting the road to face UT Chattanooga at 1 p.m.

🔼 Giving Back. In the spirit of the holiday season, two Bulldogs were each honored for their selfless actions throughout the season. State football’s Mike Wright and State volleyball’s Rebecca Walk each earned a spot on the 2023 Community Service Team for their efforts in getting involved and helping improve the Starkville community.

🔼 Leader Of The Pack. Senior soccer star Macey Hodge was awarded with a selection to the 2023 United Soccer Coaches NCAA DI Women’s All-Southeast Region Second Team for her performance throughout this year. Hodge was a key player in the historic Sweet 16 run for Mississippi State—commanding the midfield and showcasing resilience and determination.

🗣️ “Not possible without my teammates, coaches and the whole Mississippi State community! Thank you to everyone!” - Macey Hodge, midfielder

🔼 Let’s Go. New head coach Jeff Lebby has quite the resume when it comes to the offensive side of the ball, and now under his rule, State football is about to turn up the volume.

🗣️ "It will be a show. And it'll be a show that a lot of people are going to want to see, and it'll be a show that a lot of people are going to want to be a part of." - Jeff Lebby, head coach
