🔼 What A Run It Was. The most remarkable season in Mississippi State's soccer history came to a close on Sunday as the Bulldogs fell 2-0 to Notre Dame in the NCAA Sweet 16 at the MSU Soccer Field. As the Bulldogs look to build on their success, the impact of this year's accomplishments will serve as a foundation for continued growth, ensuring that the bond between Mississippi State and Starkville remains unbreakable.
🗣️ "It's just been a blessing. Looking back from our first year to now, I never would've thought that we'd be SEC Champs, go 10-0 in SEC play and get to the Sweet 16 for the second year in a row. It's so amazing to watch the growth of this team as a whole, and the growth of the program and just the growth of the community around soccer in Starkville. I'm so thankful I got to be a part of it." - Maddy Anderson, goalkeeper
🔼 Rally Dawgs. For the second straight game, Bulldog men’s basketball used some second-half firepower to rally and earned the victory as MSU moved to 5-0 this season courtesy of an 84-79 triumph over SMU on Friday night. In the team’s first true road test of the season, State turned it on in the final 20 minutes, shooting 53.3% as a team and scoring 51 points to secure the win. KeShawn Murphy turned in the best performance of the night with 16 points, seven rebounds, three blocks and two steals.
🔼 Big Win. Sophomore Quanirah Montague scored a career-high 17 points to lead Mississippi State women's basketball past Jacksonville, 80-35, at the 2024 WBCA State Farm Showcase on Sunday. With the win, Mississippi State is 6-0 on the season and 9-1 overall in non-conference neutral-site games under Purcell.
🔼 Not Enough. The Bulldogs got off to a fast start and captured an early lead but could not sustain momentum as State fell 39-20 to Missouri on Saturday as MSU wrapped up the home portion of its 2024 schedule. Running back Davon Booth rushed for 124 yards and a touchdown and quarterback Michael Van Buren Jr. threw for 191 yards and a score, but it wasn't enough for the Dawgs.
🔼 Senior Day Success. In the last home match of the year, Bulldog volleyball defeated the No. 25-ranked Missouri Tigers, 3-1, for its first ranked win since October 2023. Two senior Bulldogs picked up a double-double in the match as Kailin Newsome collected her 12th of the year with 12 kills and 11 digs while Ceci Harness picked up her sixth with 52 assists and 13 digs.
🔼 That’s A Wrap. The fall season for Mississippi State men's tennis ended on Friday in the doubles quarterfinals of the NCAA Individual Championships. A day after earning All-America honors for the second-straight season, No. 1 Petar Jovanovic and Benito Sanchez Martinez fell in straight sets to conclude their fall.
