🔼 Statement Made. Although the game won’t go down in the record books, the Bulldogs earned an important, momentum gaining win to open up play for the upcoming basketball season. Possibly even better than that was the money raised from the matchup that will benefit the tornado victims in the Mississippi Delta.

🗣️ "The great thing about today was it felt like a game that's going to matter in the win-loss column. The Bulldogs coming into Southern Miss was obviously a big deal, and that's why we accepted the challenge." - Chris Jans

Two State players, D.J. Jeffries and Josh Hubbard finished the game in double-digits with nine total Bulldogs getting minutes in preparation for the regular season. Next up, the Bulldogs will head to Chicago, IL, for the Barstool Sports Invitational for the first real action of the season.

🔼 Tough Test. Heading into the game against Auburn, the Bulldogs looked to complete a perfect October, but fell just short, coming away with a 2-1 record in the month. Wide receiver Zavion Thomas finished the game with an impressive nine catch, 112-yard, one touchdown stat line while linebacker Nathaniel Watson continued his solid play with nine total tackles and one TFL.

Next up, the Bulldogs will finally return to Davis Wade Stadium after nearly a month on the road as the team will host Kentucky under the lights at 6:30pm for homecoming weekend.

🔼 Best of the Best. As voted on from coaches around the SEC, Bulldog captains Maddy Anderson and Macey Hodge were selected to All-SEC Honors with the postseason on the horizon. Hodge, the Dawgs’ standout midfielder, earned First Team All-SEC Honors while Anderson, State’s brick wall of a goalkeeper, earned Second Team All-SEC Honors. Hodge helped control the game all season long for the Bulldogs, and Anderson helped keep the ball out of the back of the net and allowed just 11 goals in the entire season.

On Tuesday, the Soccer Dawgs will head to the beach to compete in the first round of the SEC Tournament to face off against Alabama.

🔼 On to the Next. After battling out the first set that ended in the favor of Georgia, the Volleydawgs were unable to capture the win. Sophie Agee posted her fourth 10 kill match in a row while Amina Shackelford ended the contest with a .389 hitting percentage. The team will now hit the road next week to face off against Missouri on Friday night.

🔼 Huge Strides. State women’s tennis wrapped up its tournament as the hosts of the third annual John Cade Invitational with a couple of titles across different brackets. Dharani Niroshan and Alessia Tagliente took home the doubles championship in the West bracket while Athina Pitta won a singles final in the White North bracket.

🗣️ "Attitude comes first. The quote that we go by is 'performance doesn't affect the attitude, attitude affects the performance'. That's what the identity of this team is going to be. For the future players out there, if they want to join a program where they can make a name for themselves and want to be challenged, then this is the place to be." - Chris Hooshyar

In total, the Bulldogs came away with 14 wins on the tournament, and the feeling that the team is building towards something once the spring rolls around.
