📈 STOCK UP
🔼 Top of the Leaderboard. Bulldog women's golf standout Avery Weed wins the Bulldogs' lone home tournament of 2024, while State earns a runner-up finish at The Ally after shooting a 9-under par for the three-day competition. Weed, the first-ever Bulldog to win The Ally, had a tournament to remember. Weed led the event from start to finish after opening the event on Monday by tying an NCAA record with an 11-under-par performance. The tournament wraps up the team’s fall schedule, and the Bulldogs will return to the course on Feb. 2 when they compete at the UCF Challenge.
🔼 Statement Made. After falling in the first set, Bulldog volleyball rallied back to take the next three sets to earn the 3-1 victory to take down in-state rivals, Ole Miss. The win improves State’s record to 8-8 on the season. Four Bulldogs finished the match with double-digit kills with Karli Schmidt leading the way with 19.
🔼 Echoes From The Hardwood. Mississippi State men's basketball opens its season in less than a month. The Bulldogs face West Georgia during their 2024-25 season opener on Monday, Nov. 4, at Humphrey Coliseum. Recently, the players were asked why they chose to attend Mississippi State and what it means to them to wear the Maroon and White.
🗣️ "Before I came here, Coach Jans had a lot of success in the tournament. How he built his teams and how they played, I just wanted to add on to that. You said, 'Why Mississippi State?' Why not Mississippi State? It has a lot of things to offer for me personally to represent my state as a Mississippi kid growing up. It was a no brainer to play for Jans. It's a blessed opportunity for me." - Josh Hubbard
🗣️ "The family-oriented bond that we have throughout the program. The expectations that we have, the dog mentality and just how hard we play and how hard we work. How we get after it every day. That's why I really love it." - Shawn Jones Jr.
🔼 Bringing The Energy. Since becoming the associate head coach at State, Nick Zimmerman has helped lead the Bulldogs to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances for the first time in program history, along with the first-ever Sweet 16 appearance last year. He brings a special flavor of intensity, determination and a competitive spirit that gives the Bulldogs that extra sliver of juice to inch them closer to their respective goals every time they step on the field.
🗣️ "He's an incredible coach. Yes, he's the hype guy, but he's also very grounded. He's got a great relationship with the players, incredible work ethic [and] an incredible recruiter. He is everything you would ever hope for in an associate head coach." - James Armstrong, head coach
