🎙️ DEAR OL’ STATE

Dear Ol’ State: Bulldog Women’s Hoops Takes Turn at SEC Media Day. Mississippi State women’s basketball took its turn at its SEC Media Day on Wednesday. 🔼 Own It. Wednesday morning at the Grand Bohemian Hotel, Mississippi State women's basketball was in the spotlight. From appearances on the SEC Network, to the main media room filled with reporters, to the photo ops and random questions coming from all directions, the attention was the Bulldogs'. For as Purcell and his team embark on their 2024-25 voyage, Purcell has chosen 'Own It' as the group's motto.

🗣️ "I'm proud of how we joined in the WBIT tournament when most teams across the country decided just to fold the season. We didn't do that. We're proud to wear that uniform. We showed up and we showed out, but at the same time, again, our goal is to make NCAA deep runs. We were right there and we were one game short. So, I can't complain about it. I've got to own it. And believe me, that's been my motivation." - Sam Purcell

🔼 Opening Day. On the first day at the ITA Southern Regional Championships, Marshall Landry split his singles matchup to open play for Bulldog men’s tennis. Landry and seven other Bulldogs will be in action as part of Thursday's main draw. Landry and partner Roberto Ferrer Guimaraes begin doubles play against Tulane followed by Michal Novansky and Radomir Tomic taking on New Orleans at 10 a.m. The first round of the singles main draw starts at noon with the tournament's top seed and 12th-ranked Petar Jovanovic taking on LSU.

🔼 From State to a Star. Former Bulldog Aspen Wesley was named to the All-WPF All-Star Team. The Mississippi State alumni had a phenomenal rookie season with the Texas Monarchs on the heels of a breakout senior season for the Bulldogs. The Philadelphia, Mississippi, native pitched to a 2.94 ERA in the regular season while making 10 appearances for the Monarchs. She went 3-3 and struck out 27 batters across 47.2 innings pitched.

🔼 Glue Guy. While making his rounds at SEC Media Day on Tuesday, Josh Hubbard was asked what the ultimate basketball player should look like. His reply was simple: "Cameron Matthews". The Olive Branch native posted career-highs last season averaging 9.4 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.1 steals per game while also earning a spot on the SEC All-Defensive Team. There are the obvious physical gifts the graduate forward was blessed with, but it's on the basketball court that his abilities shine the brightest.

🔼 Home Again. State football returns to its home turf on Saturday against No. 15 Texas A&M after back-to-back road contests against top-five opponents. The Bulldogs held their own and competed for four quarters in Austin and Athens – two of the most daunting atmospheres in the country. State is growing at the right time with the opportunity to face a top-15 foe at home.

🗣️ "As everybody has seen, we've gone on the road the last two weeks and played in incredible environments. So, we've got a lot to be excited about in front of us and can't wait to see our fanbase being back home." - Jeff Lebby
