🎙️ DEAR OL’ STATE
Dear Ol’ State: 125 Seasons of Bulldog Football - Gerri Green. In this episode, the guys chat with Gerri Green. The former linebacker/defensive end discusses playing through one of the most memorable times in State history and how now, a decade later, he's still doing big things for the Maroon and White.
📈 STOCK UP
🔼 Another One. Bulldog soccer continued its roll through the SEC with a dominant 5-0 win over Missouri on Sunday night. Hannah Johnson and Zoe Main each found the back of the net in the first half to put the Dawgs up two at halftime. The offense kept with its attack in the second half with goals from Aitana Martinez-Montoya, Ally Perry and Maggie Wadsworth, showing that the Bulldogs can get the job done on both ends of the pitch. The win extends State’s streak to nine in a row, the most in program history, as the Bulldogs have outscored SEC opponents 13-1 so far this season.
🔼 Dawg Fight. For the second straight game, Mississippi State put up a fight on the road against a top-five opponent. After a strong showing at No. 1 Texas two weeks ago, MSU did the same on Saturday at No. 5 Georgia before ultimately falling 41-31. State scored in each quarter of the game as true freshman MSU quarterback Michael Van Buren Jr. threw for career highs with 306 yards of passing and three touchdowns, Kevin Coleman Jr. totaled 103 yards receiving and Kelly Akharaiyi had 72 yards receiving with a pair of touchdowns.
🔼 Strong Showing. Mississippi State earned nine wins during the ITA Southern Regional Championships before wrapping up play on Sunday. Maria Rizzolo picked up the Bulldogs' sixth and final singles win on Sunday by downing her opponent in straight sets on her home court 6-3, 6-2. Rizzolo accounted for two of State's singles victories at the tournament as did Athina Pitta. Newcomers Chiara Di Genova and Gianna Oboniye also earned their first singles wins as Bulldogs.
🔼 Key Piece. From being a resource Bulldogs can lean on for improved mental health, to providing interventions to get the most out of athletes as they fight for the Maroon and White throughout the athletic year, the work of the CSP group at MSU – made up of Dr. Joey Case, Dr. Allison Rogers, Dr. Quincy Davis and Brett Weaver – is making sure no stone is left unturned when it comes to the care of Bulldog student-athletes.
🗣️ "Yes, we want championships and on-field performance, but it's also about setting our athletes up for success in life. We are a piece of that puzzle, whether it's student-athlete development or nutrition or athletic training, we're another piece of it all to help set our athletes up for success here and for life." - Dr. Joey Case, Director of Counseling and Sport Psychology
